How to apply
As an employer, you apply for parental allowance by sending us one application per employee who is salaried during their parental leave. The application form is called "Application for parental allowance, employer" and you will find it under "Forms". Please fill out the form with the requested information and send it to TAKS via Mínboks (minboks.fo) or by post to TAKS, Smyrilsvegur 20, Postboks 2151, 110 Tórshavn.

When you apply four weeks before the due date
Please enclose documentation of the due date, certified by a midwife, doctor or a GP, with the application, or a letter confirming the planned caesarean. Ask your employee for this documentation.
When you apply eight weeks before the due date
Please enclose a doctor's certificate called "Váttan um sjúku hjá barnakonu ella vanda fyri forskurskaða" with the application. This certificate states that continued employment may put the health of the mother or the baby at risk. Ask your employee for this documentation. Barsilsskipanin will pay for the expenses in connection with the doctor's certificate.
When you apply after childbirth
Please enclose a notice of birth with your application. It is called "Fráboðan um barnsburð" and is obtained at the hospital. It is possible that your employee already arranged with a midwife to send it after the child was born. In this case, it is not necessary to send it again. Ask your employee about this.
Please enclose a certificate of adoption from the High Commissioner of the Faroe Islands (Ríkisumboðið) with the application. The certificate must include the date of placement (the day when the child comes to live with the parents). If you apply for parental allowance for up to four weeks before the date of placement, you must also provide documentation of travel dates when you went abroad to bring back the child, this could be tickets, for example. Ask your employee for this documentation.
Please enclose the supplementary application "Supplement for public institutions" along with the main application. You will find it under "Forms". You must also enclose the employment contract of the substitute.
The application for parental allowance must be submitted to Barsilsskipanin within one year of giving birth/placement of the adoptive child. After this deadline, you have lost the right to parental allowance. The application will be processed as soon as the leave starts.
If we find that you did not provide all the required information in your application, we will notify you. Then you have 14 days, from the day you received the notification, to send us the missing information. If you fail to respond in this time, your application will be cancelled.
You have a duty to notify Barsilsskipanin of any changes in circumstance which might affect your allowance. This could be, for example, changes in salary, discharge, work during the parental leave and so on.

If you provide Barsilsskipanin with incorrect information or if you withhold information, Barsilsskipanin can demand that you repay the received allowance.
